Optimization After Pre-Segmentation (OAPS) :
An automated aperture-based solution for personalized and efficient IMRT
The OAPS module of the ISOgray suite offers the possibility to prepare in seconds a personalized IMRT plan for situations where a limited number of segments allows to meet the clinical requirements. It is mostly efficient for breast treatments or some Head&Neck cases, where IMRT is used as replacement of traditional wedge filters or 2D mechanical compensators. It achieves an optimal uniform dose distribution throughout the target volume with a minimal number of Monitor Units. Time consuming compensator manufacturing, wedge manipulation and beam contamination are avoided.
Optimization After Pre-Segmentation - OAPS - is a simple, automated and fast fluence modulation technique designed for beam compensation. It does not change the traditional workflow but relieves from the tedious manual selection of beam weights and wedge angle. The resulting dose distribution is much more uniform than with conventional wedges. The treatment itself is simpler and faster.
2 - Treatment : Simple and fast impementation. Patient positioning and beam set-up are unchanged. The suppression of beam modifiers eliminates their constraints and the possible errors associated with their manipulation. With its methodology, the OAPS is intuitive. The understanding of segment shapes is easy and relieves from the need of dosimetric pre-treatment control. 3 - Clinical outcome : Eliminating the hot and cold spots, protecting organs at risk is likely to reduce side effects and to improve cosmetic results and patient quality of life after treatment. |
